Why should I try mindset among Gen Z
**A Snapshot of the “Why Should I Try?” Mindset among Gen Z Students**
In recent times, I’ve noticed a growing mindset among some Gen Z students that can be summed up as “why should I try so hard?” It’s not always spoken openly, but it shows up in attitudes toward studying, exams, and long-term effort.
For some students, there is a quiet belief that they will pass anyway, no matter how much effort they put in. Because of this, academic pressure doesn’t feel very intense. When that is combined with strong family support, it can sometimes lead to less personal drive to push oneself academically. As a result, many tend to prioritize comfort, relaxation, and short-term enjoyment over consistent study habits.
Another interesting factor influencing this mindset is the rise of alternative ways to earn money. Today, platforms like Instagram, and gig-based services like Swiggy and Zomato, are seen by some students as quicker ways to earn income compared to traditional career paths. The idea that part-time work or online content creation can generate similar earnings to entry-level professional jobs makes some students question the value of long years spent in education and training.
At the same time, it’s important to understand that this mindset doesn’t come from laziness alone. It may also reflect a shift in how this generation views life—more focus on flexibility, independence, mental well-being, and avoiding unnecessary stress. Traditional ideas of “study hard now, success later” are being questioned more openly.
The real challenge, then, is finding a balance—between enjoying the present and building the discipline needed for long-term stability and growth.
